POST BONNEVILLE 2010: Racing for speed, settling for fun.

NO BONNEVILLE RECORDS BUT LOTS OF GEAR HEAD FUN.

Bonneville Salt Flats:  Bub's Speed Trials Week is like no other event in the world. You gotta be there to understand it. The surface is made up of crystalline salt and seems to go on forever. Bikers reach mind-boggling speeds and speed records are broken regularly. Its really a mythical experience. I hope you all get to experience it live someday. Its really different.  Its a Mecca for those gear heads that want to ride their motorcycles really, really fast.

Day 1Marc, Ray C., Jeremiah and Keith - high aspirations on day one as we stand in the inspection-registration line with the two race bikes.  P.S. That's world-famous racing photographer, Scooter Grubb of Scooter Shoots in the background.

Front:
Ray C.'s 2004 Turbo-Charged Harley-Davidson Dyna.  We planned to top 200 mph with Ray C piloting this machine this year.
Back:
That's the 1926 Harley-Davidson "Peashooter". We were hoping to just get it started and hit 50 to 60 mph with this classic. Nicole Brosing, Speedster from Brisbane, Australia was recruited to set records on the Peashooter.

Day 1: Ray C. Wheeler and Nicole Brosing - getting psyched up for Bonneville.

Ray C and Nicole could not wait to feel the salt. Here they are sitting on the bikes during a traffic-construction stop.

Day 2: Riders meeting at 7:00 am. Listen up for the AMA rules and weather conditions.

Day 2: Try-outs lead to failure quickly this year.

Blew the head gasket and found "un-fixable" cylinder and casing problems. Engine needs a rebuild. Serious destruction given that we had some of the best mechanics in the business attempting to fix the Peashooter motor onsite.

The Deacon Brothers from the island.  Chase and Ben Deacon are two of the best and owners, along with their father (Deacon),  of Speed Deacons, Kailua, Hawaii.

Then there's Ray C Wheeler's machine with a Turbo that wanted to eat the rear spoked wheel.

Ray C. saw God himself while on two speed runs. Both times he hit a wobble at about 170 mph and did all but crash.  The spoked rear wheel simply could not handle the stress. (And, neither could Ray.)   It was clear that this was not meant to be Ray C.'s year for another speed record.   We did our best to locate a solid rear wheel for a re-try but failed to do so.

Game Over for Bikernet Bonneville 2010:

We'll be back! Being part of a Bonneville Racing Team is an awsome experience. You simply gotta be there to appreciate it.  A big thank you to all involved and especially to our sponsors whose support make this passion come alive for us.

Ray C. dedicated his bike to racing icon Burt Munro.  This is a photo of Ray's rear fender.

BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS 2010

Bonneville Salt Flats: The Place To Be August 28th to September 2nd, 2010

5-Ball Racing Inc. sure knows how to put together a Salt team. Here are four of the Team's key members. God Bless them all as they attempt to set new world speed records next week.

Ray C. Wheeler - Chief Pilot with 5-Ball Racing Inc. Check out the turbo'd machine he will be riding to the record books at Bonneville 2010.

Then, there's the "Peashooter". This baby will be piloted by Australian Speedsters, Nicole Brosing.

Note the paint work on the Peashooter Gas Tank.  Art by Jim Murillo.

Australia's Nicole Brosing, will be piloting the 5-Ball Racing "Peashooter".  This bike has a stroked overhead valve engine. How fast will it go? TBD.

None of this would be possible without the talent and dedication of Team Owner, Keith R. Ball.

Then, there's our best cheerleader and chief coordinator, Nyla Olsen.

All the best to the 5-Ball Racing Team at Bonnerville Salt Flats 2010.

More to come on the other team members in a future post.

"UHL STUDIOS" -

The Amazing Uhl Studios - Just keeps on putting out fine art and now clothing to match.
Monday, August 2, 2010.

David Uhl’s 2010 Sturgis Commemorative Piece

Titled “70 & Counting”. - On my way to the 1938 Black Hills Classic

David’s subject in “70 & Counting”, a member of a motorcycle club at the time, is on her way to the inaugural festivities when she stops near Devil’s Tower to get her bearings.  We can only imagine that her new cowboy friend wishes she would stay longer!

Since 2005, David has produced a special piece for the Sturgis rally each year.  These previous editions were open through the last day of the rally, when we totalled up the orders and closed the edition.
With the excitement surrounding the 70th anniversary, David is capping the number of available prints this year.  He’s also including a special paper version (also signed and numbered) which will be only be available unframed.

Now, Uhl Studios' Fine Art skills are being applied to apparel.

Who knew? David is introducing "Uhl Works" - a radically designed art-for-wear fashion line of clothing.  David and graphic artist partner, Danial James, have combined their talents to introduced some super cool T-shirts. Check out these exciting designs. Even a caveman would look cool wearing these Ts.

David in action.
I saw David working his magic on this painting while attending the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Orange County, California on June 28, 2010. This guy is good. Real good.

Go to www.uhlstudios.com for more a good look at the art behind the man.

Feel free to contact Greg Rhodes, National Sales Manager for Uhl Studios,  at 303-913-4840 for specific details on how to purchase this fine art. Greg can also be reached via email at greg@uhlstudios.com
